My grandmother put a middle eastern twist on cabbage salad. Her special secret was to crush fresh garlic with a pestle in a bowl with salt. The salt creates a rough surface and texture to break down the garlic and infuse it with flavor. There is nothing like the smell of this salad to fill my heart with loving memories.
